A similar R2 Avanti coupe with Paxton Supercharger and four speed gearbox was driven in 1964 by Studebaker drivetrain advisor, Andy Granatelli, to 22 stock car records at the Bonneville Salt Flats, including a top stock speed record of more than 180mph, a record which stood for more than two decades.
